Following on from the successful earlier work with Mapping for Change. I had a paper accepted at the Digital Engagement conference 2011 in Newcastle. The focus of this paper is dedicated to the role intermediaries play in delivering large community GIS projects and was written in partnership with my PhD supervisor, David Golightly. The paper is available to read here:

Recently I have been working with the innovative social enterprise Mapping for Change. They specialise in providing participatory mapping services to communities, Third Sector organisations, and local authorities. Using a diverse suite of tools their aim is to encourage community engagement with GIS technology and reduce digital exclusion wherever possible. As part of a drive to improve the usability of GIS functionality I examined how different communities were using the technology to meet their aims. These results were then used to analyse how participatory GIS can be deployed most effectively. The findings of this research were presented at the AGI geocommunity conference 2011 and can be found here:

My research is focused on consumer behaviour and human-computer interaction. Specifically, I'm interested in gift economies and how technology can empower consumer decision making.
